Workshop on Stakeholder Dialogue on Consumer Protection

Do you know your consumer rights in Cambodia?

On 27 November 2020 at Raffles Hotel Le Royal, EuroCham Cambodia co-organised a workshop on "Stakeholder Dialogue on Consumer Protection: Towards Collective Consumer Action in Cambodia". The event was organised in partnership with the Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression Directorate General (CCF) of the Ministry of Commerce, and GIZ.

Consumer protection is the practice of safeguarding consumers of goods and services against unfair practices in the marketplace. Cambodia’s new Law on Consumer Protection was promulgated in November 2019.

Supported by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Government, the workshop discussed in detail the importance of the new Law on Consumer Protection for Cambodia. Joined by the Cambodian Institute for Rural Development and Research (CIRD), as well as representatives from the private sector including Heineken Cambodia and DFDL, the workshop also covered the current state of consumer empowerment in Cambodia. The event concluded with a panel discussion on the challenges and priority areas to drive Cambodia's consumer protection regime forward.

EuroCham and our partners are grateful to all who joined, and look forward to engaging the public and private sectors further in early 2021!
