Nexus for Development appoints Clarisse Kehler Siebert as Executive Director

Phnom Penh, May 11, 2020 – The Board of Directors of Nexus for Development is pleased to announce the appointment of Clarisse Kehler Siebert as the organisation’s next Executive Director.

Clarisse, an international environmental lawyer, brings to Nexus a wealth of knowledge and an array of experiences in climate change and sustainable development research and policy.

Before joining Nexus, Clarisse worked at the Stockholm Environment Institute, considered one of the world’s most influential think tanks on sustainable development policy. There, she managed a research portfolio within the Climate, Energy and Society research group and also served as Unit Head of this group for three years. Her research included climate finance, rights-based approaches to climate policy, UNFCCC negotiations, adaptation policy from local to global, and the ethics of geoengineering as a climate response. Clarisse was a Swedish nominee to the Intergovernmental on Panel on Climate Change and contributed to the IPCC Special Report on Extremes and the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). While in Cambodia, Clarisse is on leave from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where she works with environmental pressures from land to sea.

As a lawyer, Clarisse also worked at one of Canada’s leading law firms assisting provincial governments in the early days of implementing a carbon tax and regional trading scheme, and with client companies in the scoping and design phase for Clean Development Mechanism projects under the Kyoto Protocol.

Jeffrey Lamb, Chair of Nexus, says he and the rest of the Board of Directors are very excited to have Clarisse join Nexus as its next Executive Director. “With her background in research, public and private sectors in Nexus focal areas, coupled with her outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, Clarisse will bring fresh perspectives, deep insight and international networks to Nexus that will ensure that Nexus enjoys continued success.”

“I am honoured and excited to lead Nexus at this time,” says Clarisse on assuming her role. “Accessible and fair financing for many smaller-scale sustainable transitions is necessary to progress on our shared global journey that is Agenda 2030. Amidst the economic and climate challenges of 2020, Nexus’ mandate to pursue environmentally sustainable solutions while financing good development is more relevant than ever.”
