EU Day, GI Products Initiative

On the 1st of November 2016, the EU’s delegation to Cambodia hosted a GI event to recognize Kampot Pepper as a PGI product. During the event the EU Ambassador to Cambodia awarded an appellation certificate to the head of the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, cementing Kampot Pepper as a product with protected geographical status.

Nine different exhibitors showcased a range of GI products from Europe and Cambodia during the event. The purpose of this was to raise awareness for GI protected European and Cambodian goods in the Kingdom. Meat, cheese and other luxury products from areas like Catalonia, Bordeaux and Napoli were freely available to sample over the course of the evening, much to the delight of guests. 

During the event, revered chef Luu Meng hosted a cooking show to demonstrate the ways in which Kampot pepper can be applied to Cambodian fine dining. The show was a huge success and the local crab dish prepared by the chef was simply divine.
