Together to Reduce Iron Deficiency Anemia through the Food Safety Campaign at school, “Child’s Health and Iron”
Iron deficiency anemia in children remains a major health concern in Cambodia. According to Cambodia Demographic and Health Survey 2014, Iron deficiency anemia cause children under the age of 5 to face several impacts such as higher risks of illness, cognitive impairment, and delayed brain development. Malnutrition is another key concern, can lead to an alarming increase in the rate of children with diabetes.
Danone Cambodia, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, has continued its Food Safety Campaign at school under the theme "Child Health and Iron." The event held at the National Institute of Education in Phnom Penh on 7 May 2025, was graced by the esteemed presence of His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport, and Mr. Danish Rahman, General Manager of Danone Southeast Asia. The campaign aims to jointly reduce iron deficiency anemia and promote food safety practices among Cambodian children.
His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron stated: “Children are an indispensable human resource for the future development of the nation. Good nutrition brings health and well-being, leading to better academic outcomes for children. The partnership with Danone ensures food safety through the promotion of balanced eating habits, appropriate nutritional guidance, and the avoidance of sugary drinks, helping them grow into knowledgeable citizens for the country.”
Mr. Danish Rahman emphasized: “At Danone, our mission is to bring health through food to as many people as possible. We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in our efforts to reduce iron deficiency anemia, helping young children to achieve complete development. This initiative includes educational campaigns, proactive screening and promoting a healthy diet rich in iron and Vitamin C as a nutritional solution”.
The Food Safety Campaign at school will educate school management committees, teachers, parents, students, and the public on:

Establishing daily eating habits with three food groups (energy-yielding, body-building, and protective foods) with low fat, low salt, and low sugar

Nutrition rich in iron and vitamin C.

Avoiding sugary drinks.
This educational campaign will be disseminated through school educational materials, public educational videos, and expanded outreach through various content creators.
