Breakfast Talk with ACTED Introducing the Workers Sabay Certification Scheme

On 9 March 2016, EuroCham, in collaboration with ACTED organized, a Breakfast Talk introducing the Workers Sabay Certification Scheme. The event was attended by H.E. George Edgar, EU Ambassador to Cambodia and around other 30 participants who were mostly from the hospitality sector.
Mr. Pauv Sokheng Pauk, the guest speaker, put it simply that Workers Sabay certification serves as an “ethical label”, aiming to promote a worker-friendly environment for employees and encourage local and international tourists to use services from businesses that abide by the Cambodia Labour Law.
The Workers Sabay certification is awarded to any Phnom-Penh based hospitality businesses who agree to implement the Workers Sabay’s Code of Conduct which includes providing fair working conditions for employees and complying with the labour law. In return, ACTED provides those businesses with free training, mentoring, and advertising on social media, newspaper, guidebooks and its website.
In addition to the introduction to the certification scheme, Mr. Pauk also explained in details how companies can obtain the Workers Sabay certification. The talk was concluded with an engaging Q&A session.
ACTED has carried out the Workers Sabay scheme in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, the Phnom Penh Department of Labour and the Cambodian Food and Service Workers Federation (CFSWF) for a year and a half already. The project was funded by the European Union.
