The 14th AEM - EU Trade Commissioner Consultations in Chiang Mai, Thailand

On 3 March 2016, the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) and the EU Trade Commissioner held their 14th Consultations in Chaing Mai, Thailand. The Consultations were co-charied by H.E. Khemmani Pholsena, Minister of Industry of Commerce, Lao PDR and H.E. Cecilia Malmström, the EU Trade Commissioner.
In the occasion, Cambodia was represented by its Minister of Commerce, H.E. Sun Chanthol and EuroCham Cambodia was represented by its Board Member, Mr. André de Jong.
The AEM and EU Trade Commissioner acknowledged the strong trade relations between the two regions, citing the fact that the EU is ASEAN’s second largest trading partner and largest source of FDI inflows. Praising the progress made in the implementation of the ASEAN-EU Trade and Investment Work Programme for 2015-2016, both the Ministers and the EU Trade Commissioner reaffirmed their commitment in working towards the ASEAN-EU Free Trade Agreement.
During the Consultations, the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), the network of which EuroCham was part, reported its activities to the AEM and the EU Trade Commissioner who noted with appreciation the EU-ABC’s success in organizing Business Summit under the framework of ASEAN-EU economic cooperation.
