Three Quick Q's with Zandre VAN STRATEN Services Coordinator

This week, we had a quick interview with our Services Coordinator Zandre VAN STRATEN. Read it below!

Q: You’ve now worked at EuroCham for 5 months. How have you experienced the transition from a communications role in Bangkok to a services-oriented position in Phnom Penh?

It’s been an amazing learning opportunity so far! This shift has allowed me to engage more directly with government, business, and organizational decision-makers to understand their needs better and provide more tailored solutions. Thanks to the supportive environment created by leadership and the team, we’re contributing to more tangible outcomes that support the growth and development of the European business community in Cambodia.

Q: Could you tell us about one of the projects you’re working on now?

The Services team and I are working on skills-based training, raising awareness of sustainable business practices and intellectual property in Asia, and producing new market research. I encourage all our members to read and give feedback on our latest EuroCham Skills Gap Assessment 2024 so we can help you fine-tune your skills needs and build a future-ready workforce. I’m also happy to mention that we are promoting Cambodia’s first Agri-food Industrial Park (AIP) with Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED). With its strong economic growth and government support, Cambodia is well-positioned to become a major player in the global agri-food and agri-processing market.

Q: Your role is quite diverse, and you often have to work at the intersection of the government, the private sector, and development partners. What is some advice you would give to a young professional hoping to work in this sector?

My advice to young professionals is to stay informed about current political and economic trends, research your partners’ work and priorities, and seek new learning opportunities both online and offline. Having faced challenging leadership in a past job, I am dedicated to supporting interns and colleagues through positive mentorship. We've had two interns so far and will welcome two more soon. I plan to help them make the most of every opportunity to learn, network, and benefit from a supportive environment here at EuroCham Cambodia.
