Opera: Cambodia Welcomes Madama Butterfly in 2023

Gabriele Faja - director of production for this huge 2023 event - explains, "We have an amazing team with great expertise, and we have already secured some amazing sponsors. This is a project out of love and passion for Opera, the arts, and for the development of classical productions in Cambodia."
Gabriele selected a star-filled technical and artistic team which includes stage director Vincenzo Grisostomi Travaglini, conductor Marco Titotto, vocal coach and stage manager Paolo Gonnelli, as well as the artistic support of HRH Ravivaddhana Monipong Sisowath, Jun Isaka (musical director in Japan), and Juveris Tenisons (director of design) and the new Phnom Penh Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir. The Madama Butterfly production boasts a cast of Italian, Japanese and Khmer opera stars that includes Yasko Fuji, Ai Iwasaki, Enrico Guerra, Khuon Sethisak, and many others. The advisory board is composed of HRH Ravivaddhana Monipong Sisowath, HE Paolo Dionisi (Italian Ambassador in Bangkok), Tassilo Brinzer (Chairman of Eurocham), and Antoine Fontaine (attorney-at-law), and Jacques Guichandut (All Dreams Cambodia) Artworks by famed Belgian artist Christian Develter will be used for elements of the design language for the 2023 production Madama Butterfly. Gabriele tells us that “the staging of large classical productions in Cambodia brings numerous benefits such as cultural enrichment, creating art job opportunities and contributing to the development of the local arts scene. It is also an opportunity to showcase Cambodia to the world as a place of cultural richness and artistic vibrancy.”.
