ASEAN Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor meetings a success for European Business community

EuroCham Cambodia chairman Tassilo Brinzer led a delegation of the EU - ASEAN Business Council during last week’s ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governor’s Consultations (AFMCG) in Bali, Indonesia. The meetings focussed largely on the topic of sustainable finance for a speedier and better energy transition, a topic high on the list of ASEAN and the current ASEAN chair, Indonesia.

Other topics were to advocate for further improvement of regional trade and customs procedures and logistics, health insurance and better screening of a fast-aging population and work force, and the integration of the banking sector, in particular the digital banking connectivity between ASEAN member states.

Mr. Brinzer also met in bilateral meetings with H.E. Ros Seleiva, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and finance ministers from Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia where issues concerning the individual markets were discussed. The new leadership of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC) under chairman M. Arsjad Rasjid P.M met with the EU - ABC and discussed key objectives of the ABAC for the year, and beyond. Mr. Rasjid also met this week with Cambodia National Bank director, H.E. Chea Serey to discuss Cambodia’s blockchain based digital payment system and a possible ASEAN-wide QR code for financial transactions.
