Interview with Géraldine Adolh, EuroCham Board Member and Founder of American Hardwood Flooring

1. Congratulations on being elected to the Board of Directors at EuroCham. What are some of the first initiatives you will engage on as part of the Board?
It is an honor to serve the European community and advocate for them. As I shared during the AGM, I think women are still underrepresented in leadership roles and higher levels. My first initiative is taking place soon on October 20th with an interchamber networking event for women. October is also the month of breast cancer awareness. Therefore, we will take advantage of this event to share some data on the illness. It is also our role to educate people.

2. How do you balance your roles as a private sector business person and an advocate for change?
I have more hats than these two in reality (we all do!); it takes mental gymnastics to get organized. Keeping the major tasks in mind (and in my notebook) helps me stay on top.
My flooring business is still a start-up, so I take advantage of my free time to support the chamber!

3. What skills do you bring to the board that you think will benefit the chamber?
I have a degree in multi-media, so I have some abilities in designing and photo/video editing. I design posts myself and help other businesses with their social media posts.
I also look forward to helping with event organization, brainstorming ideas, contacting members, etc.

Other than that, my experiences living in different countries and adapting to cultures allow me to look at things from a broad point of view. I think it will help in discussions.

4. How long have you been in Cambodia and what unique opportunities do you see living in the Kingdom?
I have been in Cambodia for 2 years now and have enjoyed discovering the country and the culture. I am fascinated by old monuments and Cambodia has a lot of those!
I think Cambodia has many opportunities in construction, increasing safety for workers, improving waste management, and recycling. There are many other items we can help with as members of EuroCham! Let’s bring these concerns up so we can address these.

5. What sectors or issues are you most passionate about?
I want to look at waste management and recycling to better the streets in Cambodia and change the habits of throwing trash in the ditch. Trash bins are not available in town because there are no systems to collect these. By designing the system we can help change the landscape and change the reviews in tourism guides!
