Interview with Entrepreneur Sov Men on Health, Business, and Happiness

1. You have started three businesses in Cambodia. How are they going and how do you find time to run them all?
The one which takes up most of my time is The Glasshouse. It's the newest of my three businesses, compared to the other ones. The Box & The Coach. are still under one year old.

Today, The Glasshouse and The Box are actually linked, as we prepare the food for The Box -- a healthy delivery meal plan company -- directly at The Glasshouse. It’s easier for me to control the quality of the food and the cooks.

For the third company, The Coach, since Covid, I haven't been able to work as a personal trainer as much. Even if it’s still my main activity, I decided not to promote it that much to have more time to focus on the Glasshouse.

I am trying to manage my schedule to be sure to maintain all of my companies, but I am also really lucky to have people that I can trust to work on The Glasshouse & The Box. This allows me the time I need to manage all of my businesses.

2. Your businesses are very health-focused. Do you see a growing trend for these kinds of products in Cambodia?
I started those very health-focused businesses because it is how I wanted my life to be. It is something that I really believe in.
Especially during and post-Covid, I really think that people are more interested in having a healthy lifestyle. I am sure that we will see more healthy food, more fitness-related businesses, and healthier items hit the market.

3. What projects are you currently involved in that you’re most excited about?
The Glasshouse, obviously, is one of the most exciting projects that I have ever done. I gathered all my knowledge in one place, having healthy food, hosting parties, and much more, in a unique green area in the middle of Phnom Penh.

However, The Glasshouse is not the only project that I am really excited about. My fiancée and are working on a new big project, building an eco-resort in Oudong. Oudong is famous for its temple, but unfortunately, tourism is not its main strength. We want to take this opportunity to create our own eco-resort there.

4. The Glasshouse was one of the first restaurants to open in Treellion Park on Koh Pich. The area has since exploded with growth. How do you see Koh Pich growing in the next five years?
Yes, Treellion Park is still young and still needs to grow. We made a gamble when we started our operations in Treellion, but when I saw this green area -- those trees, this nature -- we saw an amazing opportunity. Thankfully, it worked. New tenants came. We have The Bus, Birdies Mini Golf, Volcano’s, Thai Kitchen, and even Monsieur, a wine bar! I can’t wait to see new businesses fill this place. I know, at one point, Treellion Park will be the place to be!

Not only Treellion Park, Koh Pich will become busier and busier. The bridge from Koh Norea and Koh Pich will be done soon and that will create more traffic. The Elysée is almost fully operational. As long as we keep the green areas, Koh Pich will become one of the best districts of Phnom Penh.

5. What is your main goal in doing business in Cambodia? What motivates you the most?
My main goal in Cambodia is actually to spread awareness to the Khmer people. I want to promote a healthy lifestyle. I want to make them know that playing sports and caring about good nutrition is not only a hobby, it should be everyone's lifestyle.

They focus on their careers and on their studies, but not enough on their health. This is my lifetime goal, to help Cambodians become healthier.
I want to hear that they are going to work out because it helps them not just physically but also mentally. I want them to be aware that eating fried things every day is bad for them.

There is so much to do in Cambodia, I want to be part of its changes!
