Review of Tax Payment and Collection

Last year was a busy time for the General Department of Tax (GDT) which intensified its efforts to improve compliance and increase revenue collection throughout the Kingdom.
As a result, overall tax collection for 2015 amounted to approximately $1.3 billion with the GDT expecting the 2016 tax collection to increase to $1.5 billion.
As part of the various measures taken by GDT to expand the real tax regime and have more tax compliant businesses, additional regulations were designed to tighten tax registration procedures and to promote a stricter implementation of the tax dispute mechanism timeline (30 days to complain and 60 days for the authorities to provide an answer).  At the same time, the GDT has also been working on improving tax collection efficiency and transparency with the announcement that from January 2016, companies will be able to pay taxes online and receive the automatic payment receipt via SMS and email.
Below are a few press articles and GDT announcement to review the topic.
