Conference on Cambodia 2022: Economic Outlook and ASEAN Chairmanship Opportunities
On 19 January 2022, EuroCham organized an exclusive conference on Cambodia 2022: Economic Outlook and ASEAN Chairmanship Opportunities at SOSORO Museum.
We are honored to have Her Excellency Tekreth Kamrang, Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce for joining us and addressing Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship Priorities for 2022. Her excellency emphasized the priorities of the Royal Government of Cambodia in 3 areas to promote economic diversification. Starting with the economic recovery within 4 main sectors including agriculture and agri-business, tourism, garment, and manufacturing; the continuity form to build growth for competition, resilience, and sustainable inclusive growth with the development in digitalization to support the SMEs, education skills labor, public health and thirdly the green recovery.
H.E Dr. Sok Siphana, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Asian Vision Institute has shared his remarks on the KAS-AVI Publication of Cambodia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022, Priorities and Challenges mainly focus on political stability. The publication gives substantive elements to the readers regarding the contribution of each country while holding the chairmanship position within one year-round. He also mentioned how crucial Cambodia’s role is to the political security and economic aspect of the region.
The events continued with an outstanding presentation by Mr. Chris Humphrey, Executive Director of EU-ASEAN Business Council on the EU-ASEAN Business Sentiment Survey which measured the views of the European industries on Southeast Asia and how it related to the Cambodia Chairmanship of ASEAN. The overall keynotes of the survey presented with good news and rooms for improvement, keys for investment, jobs sustainable growth, views on free trade agreements and Europe’s influence on ASEAN.
The conference ended with an interactive panel discussion to further elaborate on Cambodia’s role in leading the ASEAN community toward a more prosperous and robust economic growth.
