Job Description

Mekong-ROK Cooperation Fund (MKCF)

Guidelines and Certification for Green Buildings in Cambodia Project

Guidelines and Certification for Green Building in Cambodia project is funded by Mekong-ROK Cooperation Fund (MKCF) with fund management by Mekong Institute (MI). The project is implemented by the Department of Green Economy of General Secretariat of National Council for Sustainable Development. The project aims to develop guidelines and certification standards for constructing green buildings (residential and commercial) in Cambodia. These guidelines and certification process would be based on international experience and international standards such as green building indices or rating systems (LEED, LOTUS (Vietnam), or Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) supported by International Finance Corporation (IFC)), but adapted to the context of Cambodia.

The Guidelines for a Green Building Design and the Certification can involve the following three green building components: energy, water, and materials. The green building rating system could be used as a marketing tool and would increase competition among building and architectural companies. This will help to create new green jobs in the building and construction sector, as well as improve the living standards for Cambodian residents. The target beneficiaries of the project will be the SMEs working on improvements to the design of buildings (who will have more commercial opportunities and green jobs), and the residents of Cambodia's cities, which will have improved working and living environments as the green building design is integrated into Cambodia's construction sector. As Cambodia's urban population continues to grow, the introduction of Green Building Guidelines and Certification processes in Cambodia would support Cambodia's urban population to transition to more sustainable lifestyles, and support businesses.
