Entry into Force of Validation Agreement between the European Patent Organization and Cambodia

Following the entry into force of the Validation Agreement between Cambodia and the European Patent Organisation, a seminar was organized jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft (MIH) of Cambodia and the European Patent Office (EPO) on the 1st March 2018.

This agreement will extend, upon request of the applicant, the validity of European patent applications and patents to Cambodia, which will become the first Asian country to recognize European patents on its territory.

H.E. Dr Cham Prasidth, minister of MIH provided a very eloquent opening remarks, emphasizing on the importance of patent protection in the future of Cambodia.  Mr. François-Régis Hannart, representative of EPO explained in details the process.

An initiative that can help Cambodia to improve its competitiveness and attract more investors, as Mr Youdy Bun, board member of EuroCham, highlighted in its speech.
